More Computers! More Locations!

By Lynn Eades September 14, 2016

Working with campus ITS, the Health Sciences Library (HSL) now provides access to four new iMacs and 26 new Windows computers, along with three stand-up, quick look-up computer stations, on the first floor of the library. The new equipment is accompanied by new furniture (new ergonomic chairs will arrive soon), making this busy area more comfortable for users.

For those wanting a quieter place to work, there are 12 more Windows computers on the basement level of the library. Anyone with an ONYEN login (or eligible for one, see http://its.unc.edu/services/onyen-services/) can use these computers. However, HSL continues to have 7 computers on the first floor (in front of the elevators) that do not require ONYEN logins and a “guest” printer for these workstations.

Two ITS pre-paid printers, which students can use in conjunction with their semester printing allocation or expense account, are located in the first floor copy room.

The library also has two free scanners with image editing software and an ADA computer workstation, all located on the first floor near the MacNider Hall entrance.

Furthermore, as part of our ongoing improvements, we recently added power to study carrels throughout the library to make them easier and safer to use with laptops.

Please let us know what you think of the new arrangements and equipment, and contact us if you have more ideas for improvements.
