Pet Therapy Returned to HSL in May

By Liza Cahoon May 12, 2017

On May 3rd, 4th and 5th HSL once again hosted Pet Therapy Stress Buster sessions for students, staff, and faculty fatigued by finals. On Wednesday and Thursday, friendly felines and cuddly canines soothed studying students. Therapy dogs Memphis, Dalton, Cashel, Whiskey, Dallas, and Priva, along with therapy cats Cadi and Vivo, visited

with all in the HSL conference room.

Kiwi the mini horse rode in on Friday, May 5th and awed and entertained almost 200 students and staff. The HSL conferred an honorary MLS degree- a Master of Library Shenanigans- making Kiwi our youngest (and furriest!) librarian. The HSL also held a bake sale to benefit Stampede of Love since Kiwi’s dad, Leo, is ill.

The HSL also created a guide to raise awareness about therapy animals. The guide, found at guides.lib.unc.edu/animals, connects readers to therapy animals at UNC, as well as current research in health databases. Additionally, the HSL’s Flickr page shows photos from these and other therapy events at HSL.
