The Health Sciences Library (HSL) is the primary library for the UNC-Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and UNC Hospitals. HSL is also open to all UNC-CH visitors. Faculty, staff, and students can access electronic resources with the library and remotely, while visitors have access to most resources from computers located on the first floor of the library. The HSL acquires books, journals, computer software and databases, and a variety of non-print materials for patron use. All titles in the collection are cataloged and searchable by using the Catalog. The library also collects, preserves, and provides appropriate access to Special Collections that document the historical continuum of the science and practice of the health disciplines.

Librarians offer a variety of additional services including customized literature searches. Through the Library's Liaison program, HSL librarians work directly with schools and departments to develop a deeper understanding of the information needs and resources in the field. This knowledge benefits the schools and departments through high quality customized library services provided to students, faculty, clinicians, and staff
The library is now fully wireless and equipped with 30 public computer workstations, 20 small group study rooms, 2 teaching labs with a total of 45 workstations, 3 video conferencing facilities, a collaboration center containing leading edge visualization technologies, two well-equipped public conference rooms, and a coffee shop. Faculty, staff, and students at UNC-CH may reserve rooms in advance.
