Mireille Lucienne Emilienne Brochier, a noted cardiologist, was born on March 23, 1924 in Algiers. She received her Doctorat en Médecine from the Université d’Alger in 1953.
Brochier was an intern “médaille d’Or des hôpitaux” (1948), assistant at the hospitals (1954-1956), doctor (1958), and head of the cardiology service in Algiers (1960). In 1963, she became head of the cardiology service in Tours. She was professor of medical semiology (1967), then of clinical cardiology (1977) at the Centre hospitalier universitaire of Tours. She was chief of the department of cardiology from 1977-1992 and emeritus professor of cardiology in 1993. She was a member of the Société française de cardiologie, and of the Société italienne de cardiologie, and vice-president of the Fondation national de cardiology.
Brochier wrote approximately 250 articles and books focusing on cardiology, particularly related to therapeutic thrombolysis, rhythmology, the application of radio-isotopes in cardiovascular pathology, and platelet aggregation.
She was decorated Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur (1976) and Commandeur de l’Ordre national de mérite (1998).
